BREAKING: Smoke was seen rising from an explosion near the Saint Sarkis Armenian Church in central Tehran, according to a photograph released by the Tasnim news agency. The church is located in the city’s Armenian district.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported that Shiraz has also come under attack by the United States and Israel. Reports indicate that strikes have affected several other Iranian cities, including Tabriz, Bushehr, Isfahan, Ghazvin and Bandar Abbas.
At the same time, footage circulating online shows what are described as Iranian retaliatory strikes in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The UAE state news agency confirmed that one person was killed after missile debris struck a residential building in Abu Dhabi. CBS reported that U.S. military bases in Jordan were also targeted by Iranian strikes.
The escalation appears to be drawing in multiple countries across the region. In addition to the United States, Israel and Iran, developments have involved Bahrain, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait in various capacities.
Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Armenian citizens in Iran and Israel to strictly observe safety precautions. The ministry published emergency hotline numbers for its embassies in both countries and stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary
