Well, from the perspective of the theory of international law, the Sovereign Order is definitely a subject of international law, but one could not call it a country, as it lacks some key elements like territory or population. As mentioned in the video, only three people are considered as "citizens", they issue only diplomatic passports that give its holders the right to represent the order before other subjects of international law. Important diplomatic players, but cannot be called a country, or a state.
Just for curiosity’s sake, the last time I was in Rome, I visited the SMOM headquarters. A mansion not far from the Spanish Steps. I rang the bell at the gate and was buzzed into the ‘nation’. My friend and I chatted briefly with the person at the desk and we discussed things like stamps. I collect SMOM stamps, first issued in the 1960s.
So SMOM is not a fantasy. It exists and I’ve been there.
