Amid the ongoing conflict in the unrecognized republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan were invited to Moscow to hold negotiations regarding a ceasefire and exchange of prisoners and the bodies of those killed.

After 11 hours of consultations between Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan — it has been decided to establish ceasefire in Nagorno Karabakh as of October 10, 2020.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the announcement.

The truce is intended to exchange prisoners and recover the dead.

Lavrov added that concrete parameters of the ceasefire will be agreed additionally.

Armenia and Azerbaijan will proceed to substantive negotiations with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, with a goal of reaching a settlement in the conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The sides agree to accept the unchangeability of the negotiation format.

On September 27, Azerbaijan launched large-scale air and artillery strikes to the Artsakh-Azerbaijani contact line and numerous civilian settlements and infrastructure, including capital Stepanakert.

There are civilian casualties and destructions. Turkey vowed support for Azerbaijan in escalating the conflict in Artsakh.
