Residents of Billionaires’ Row co-op told to pony up $280M or get lost

note: 2yrs ago with my real estate agent, Peter Zakian, we were looking at a very reasonably priced apartment. He brought to my attention this major issue. Thanks to him, I was not interested at all in this coop....

I am grateful that the coop that we own shares, few years ago, our board was very smart and bought the land that it's built on! Originally it was a 99 year lease!! We are lucky.

However, the maintenance fees are going up all the time and one neighbor is unable to afford it, she was crying but she is putting her beautiful 3 bedroom apartment for sale. However, she doesn't know where she is going! Her husband took off to ...... and took her name off the bank account and stopped helping with the maintenance! She cannot even afford food... so glad she opened up about it and we the neighbors are helping her out. THat's the least we can do. One son doesn't want to help at all and the other son is struggling financially and recently had to take out a loan.... Very sad situations indeed.

Americans Are Leaving These US Cities In Record Numbers

New York is one of the most iconic cities in the world, known for its melting pot of cultures, endless energy, and Wall Street. Even so, the city full of financial giants like JP Morgan has been seeing its population take a nosedive in recent years. While the concrete jungle has always been a symbol of hope, a lot of New Yorkers are realizing that the New York version of the American Dream is harder and harder to come by these days.

One issue that has impacted demographics is New York’s rise in crime. While the data suggests that violent crimes may be in decline, the city’s reputation for late-night muggings cannot be shaken, and may be a deterrent to new (and veteran) residents.

Many people are moving out of the city to increase their standard of living by getting more for their money elsewhere. New York is known for sky-high rent and enormous taxes, so people are leaving to find more suitable housing options in less densely populated areas.

Why Manhattan’s Skyscrapers Are Empty

Approximately half of the luxury-condo units that have come onto the market in the past five years are still unsold.

In Manhattan, the homeless shelters are full, and the luxury skyscrapers are vacant.

Such is the tale of two cities within America’s largest metro. Even as 80,000 people sleep in New York City’s shelters or on its streets, Manhattan residents have watched skinny condominium skyscrapers rise across the island. These colossal stalagmites initially transformed not only the city’s skyline but also the real-estate market for new homes. From 2011 to 2019, the average price of a newly listed condo in New York soared from $1.15 million to $3.77 million.
